> Freo Family Proms

Sunday 9 March 2008, 10am, 12 noon and 3pm

Fremantle Town Hall

Conductor: David Pye

Clarinet soloist: Michael Hodgkins

Violin soloists: Jocelyn Cullingford and Richard Isted

Our season opener is an hour-long spectacular Proms concert, with a typically eclectic mix of works selected and conducted by our musical director David Pye.

New FSO co-leaders Jocelyn Cullingford and Richard Isted will take centre-stage as soloists in the exquisite Largo from Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two Violins.  The concert also features the world-premiere of David Pye’s Fantasy for Clarinet & Orchestra with FSO clarinettist Michael Hodgkins, works by Elgar, Mascagni and Offenbach and culminates in the all-stops-out 1812 Overture of Tchaikowsky.

The Proms Concerts are at 10am, 12noon and 3pm (same program).  This is a concert for the whole family.

Brahms 1

> Sunday 1 June 2008, 3pm

Fremantle Town Hall

Conductor: Bruce Herriman

Harp soloist: Bronwyn Wallis

The dramatic strength, lyrical power and thematic cohesion makes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 arguably the greatest first symphony ever written.  The  light textures of Debussy’s Sacred and Profane Dances for harp and strings will be the perfect foil for the pompous grandeur of Wagner’s Prelude to the Meistersingers of Nuremberg

Pipe Organ Plus

> Sunday 7 December 2008, 2.30pm

St Patrick’s Basilica, corner Parry and Adelaide Streets Fremantle

Conductor: David Pye

Pipe organ soloist: Dominic Perisinotto

Many FSO supporters will remember our 2004 collaboration with organist Dominic Perisinotto which included a thrilling performance of Saint-Saens’ Organ Symphony.

This year we again join forces with Dominic, for the final concert in his 2008 Pipe Organ Plus series at St Patrick’s.  Together we’ll present Poulenc’s Concerto in G minor for organ, timpani and strings,  David Pye’s Manual Dexterity for Organ and Orchestra and Elgar’s great  Variations on an original theme (“Enigma”) for orchestra Op 36, conducted by David Pye.
